Beginning the new year

Hello, everyone, and a very Happy New Year to all Burgundy Friends members from your Committee. We hope you’ve coped well with the cold snap (not in Australia), and all had an enjoyable Christmas.

You’ll be pleased to know that BF started off the New Year with a bang on Wednesday. We had another of the successful “Not Monday Men” coffee/ lunch meetings, this time at La Brasserie in Autun. What a place it is, too! Amazing food, and very reasonable prices. Eleven of us turned up, ten for lunch, and although the staff were a bit surprised they rallied round and found space for us – and not a minute too early, as it’s a very busy and popular eatery. Given the amount and standard of the food, and the excellent service, plus the reasonable prices, that’s not surprising, but it does show that it’s advisable to book!

We had a great chat and catch-up over a leisurely lunch. Hopefully even more members will be able to come to the next of these meetings, which is going to be re-named – the current one is a bit of a mouthful.

Enjoy what’s left of January – the days are getting longer and Spring is just around the corner. Remember that there will be the BF AGM (via Zoom) very soon – circumstances have made setting a date a bit difficult, but it’s in hand. Please do try to attend, as it’s an important one and we want your voices to be heard.

Another event was organised, this time by Mark and Jaqueline, a big thank you to them both. A picnic at the Maison du Parc and a visit to the Musée de la Résistance followed by a walk in the grounds (for those that felt up to it).

An interesting and good time was had by all with an increasing attendance.

Events have been few and far between in recent months but this month Burgundy Friends managed to organise a few events which were able to go ahead. See more by clicking the button.

Book Swap with Norman and Jane. Sunday 18th July 2021.

Well attended by residents in France first event with a pleasant afternoon spent in the garden swapping stories and books.

Book Swap with Derek and Judith. Sunday 22nd August 2021.

Attended by residents and second home owners. Very lively and wonderful to see and hear from all members.

Petanque Friday 27th August 2021.

Members of Burgundy Friends attended the first Petanque competition of the un-locked down year on The Promenade des Marbres in Autun. Included in the group was new member Ian.

Three mixed teams battled it out, the winner from each team going into the Grand Final. The final between Norman, Mark and Amanda was tense and exciting. It was a close run match with Amanda stepping out as the eventual winner.

In celebration a small libation was taken at the Brasserie de la Promenade.
