Yesterday (Friday 9 February) we had yet another successful coffee/ lunch gathering, this time at The New St George in Autun; 13 BF members came for coffee, and 11 stayed for lunch. We have three new members, and one of them, Daniella, joined us for pre-lunch coffee.
Continue readingHello, everyone, and a very Happy New Year to all Burgundy Friends members from your Committee. We hope you’ve coped well with the cold snap (not in Australia), and all had an enjoyable Christmas.
You’ll be pleased to know that BF started off the New Year with a bang on Wednesday. We had another of the successful “Not Monday Men” coffee/ lunch meetings, this time at La Brasserie in Autun. What a place it is, too! Amazing food, and very reasonable prices. Eleven of us turned up, ten for lunch, and although the staff were a bit surprised they rallied round and found space for us – and not a minute too early, as it’s a very busy and popular eatery. Given the amount and standard of the food, and the excellent service, plus the reasonable prices, that’s not surprising, but it does show that it’s advisable to book!
Continue readingWith worries about the weather, the Annual Burgundy Friends Garden Party was successfully staged in the afternoon of 27th August 2023.
Despite confusion over the whereabouts of the marquee, the weather was kind and everyone brought plates to share, which were enjoyed by all as can be seen.
A little later than hoped by our international members who had sadly gone home to their respective countries, nonetheless it was held, the first since Covid.

Continue readingWith the heat of summer and the threaat of storms we gathered at the Promenade des Marbres in Autun. The saying goes that “the sun shines on the righteous” and so it did, staying dry and hot for the whole afternoon.
Members arrived, enough for 3 teams and several spectators to encourage the players.
We ajourned to the nearby Brasserie de la Promenade for a small libation to celebrate the winner.

Continue readingEven more members than last time arrived for afternoon tea at Jane and Norman’s home with some new visitors and 3 dogs! A good selection of food was brought by those attending including chocolate cake, sausage rolls, pork pies, cheesy biscuits, savoury swirls, smoked salad and cream cheese bites, tortilla, scones and walnut and banana cake.
Continue readingToday was the long awaited and jolly afternoon book swap hosted by Lyn and Nick in their splendid home that wasn’t really very difficult to find. Even Jim and Amanda managed to get there without being wrong footed, thanks to Lyn and her excellent directions. Sorry we missed the red man who isn’t there though.
Continue readingA delightful afternoon at chez Nancy and Dennis, in good company with good food and drinks provided by members and a majority from the hosts. The day had got off to a chilly start but by the afternoon rendezvous it had warmed up considerably and the sun shone brightly into the garden, not too hot and importantly not too cold.
I know you’ve been on tenterhooks to know how our coffee morning went on Monday, 6 June (Whit Monday, as it turned out). Well, it wasn’t the most exciting day to have chosen, as everything was closed, but the choice was constrained by circumstances, so we had to go with a National Holiday! Luckily, L’ Augusto, next to L’ Annexe was open, as, despite what they told me on the phone, L’Annexe itself was shut when I arrived just before 10 am, and didn’t open until 11.

Three teams fought it out with the winner from each team going forward to the final.
Well done to everyone, I am sure we are all delighted at the numbers present.
With the local hostellerie being closed we decanted to The Annexe for a small libation.
A happy occasion, tinged with sadness as 2 couples are selling up their holiday homes, but we are sure to be seeing them again, in the words of the song, some sunny day.
